June 2004

What a great time it was in Yellowstone National Park. We saw Moose and Bears with their young ones. Awesome. Exactly the break I needed.

As mentioned before I was not too happy with the service at Httpme.com since Voxtreme had taken over. It looks like the place had lost some of its personal flair. Even the forums at Httpme.com seemed to change. So, I was thinking about moving to a different web host. But moving from one reseller to another just would not really cut it. I could be in for an even worse experience. I started looking into getting a dedicated server. I had some Linux knowledge and also could administrative support from a friend who is a very experienced Linux Admin. My research was quite extensive. Very often I heard recommendations for Angelnetworkz, Tom Syer, and Managed.com. Those seemed to be the high-flyers. Angelnetworkz looked promising but one thing that kept me away (and it may sound stupid, but …) was their company name. Angelnetworkz just reminded me too much of Warez. A good, quality business that tries to attract the trust of other business looked odd to me spelling its company name with a slang writing (”z”). As I found out later on - my decision was perfectly right. Tom Syer seemed to have support issues and Managed.com was just too good to be true. Angelnetworkz and Tom Syer also seemed to over-concentrate on sales and less on building a good business foundation. I continued to look at the market for a little longer.

I added more content to Webhostingreport.net and also thought about the future of that website. The current design would be limiting me soon. Putting it onto a forum-based platform seemed more and more a good move. I also added two more websites to my portfolio this month. I installed a Amazon AWS store on those 2 sites and let them alone. I would come backlater once they would be nicely indexed by the search engines to promote them.
