YPN - Yahoo Publisher Network

Well, I hope everyone survived the Black Friday. There were quite some interesting shopping deals, but I personally did not bother to go shopping. I hate the crowds and the madness that is around on BF. I also do not really need anything right now. My next big major expense will be a new workstation computer or laptop when Windows Vista hits the market in late 2006. I am a very friend of running the latest hardware and the latest operating system where possible.

About 1.5 weeks ago I applied for the Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) beta program and was accepted into the program last Wednesday. This is pretty much the Yahoo version of Google Adsense. I hooked up my first website with the new ad code Wednesday night but no ads showed up - not even public service ads. So, I ditched the code and switched back to Google. I tried again yesterday afternoon and things worked much better. Within minutes I had Google Adsense removed from my test website and YPN code added to the pages. This time ads started showing up and after a few minutes they were really targeted. So far so good.

I let things settle for a few hours and went back to check my stats. Compared to Google Yahoo does not seem to offer ‘real-time’ stats. At least I did not see any way to get good data. All I was able to see was the balance summary. Anyway - the balance summary showed very good results. Within a few hours the test website had brought in about 3 times as much income from advertising compared to Google Adsense for a whole day!!!! Impressive.

I know this will not last in the long run, but I guess I enjoy the higher pay-outs as long as possible. Google Adsense had higher pay-outs in the beginning just to drop down after a while. Same thing will probably happen here. I will try a second website tonight to see how YPN will work out. I will also write a review about the interface of Yahoo Publisher Network and where the main differences are comparing it to Google Adsense.
