When Website Acquisitions turn sour
In my last posting I wrote about a new website I had acquired. While this deal went through very smooth and to the satisfaction of the seller and buyer, I do had a second acquisition currently going on that did turn sour. It seems like the seller has become greedy stupid and was playing games.
He had listed the website for sale including a BIN (Buy it Now) price. I liked the website and the numbers and went for the BIN. The seller apparently accepted and sent me the PayPal information to make a payment. I paid the sales price and asked for FTP access and for the registry for the domain transfer. Instead of giving me access to the site the seller then came back with that I should wait as he apparently is working with someone else who has made a higher (non-public) bid after I had made my payment. I was also supposed to wait before I would receive FTP access. This is in no way I am doing business and I had set a deadline to get my money back. If you are looking to get a higher price after receiving the payment for a website, do yourself a favor and refund the money to the person who sold the site to in the first place. Don’t start playing games – especially after taking someone else’s money already. I hate that. If you’re not honest about what you do it will come back and haunt you. So, my second website acquisition went down the drain. I did not expect this, but I am ready if stuff like this happens. Fortunately I got my money after exchanging a few PMs with the seller. I do not know how often I had to point that I want my money back.
On another side I am also not happy with some outsourced content writing work. It seemed like I had found a reliable writer, but after reviewing the first articles I had to spend another 10 minutes per article to fix problems. I had asked the writer to write 3 different reviews about web hosting companies. This was going to help me to judge if the writer knows the stuff or is making up knowledge just to get the job. Well, the latter seemed to be the case. I paid for 3 articles and that was the last order I am going to place with that specific writer. The damage was not too bad as I knew what I wanted from the articles and have the technical understanding to fix the content errors.
